Hi, I'm Naomi - artist, maker, and the human behind Sunstone Clay Co.

I create colorful jewelry, forever flowers, and other little pieces of art from my studio in Georgia.

Sunstone Clay Co started in one of the most unexpected chapters of my life.

I received a life-changing cancer diagnosis when doctors discovered that a tumor in my spine had destroyed one of my vertebrae. I underwent major spinal surgery and had to relearn how to walk and navigate everyday life. Not long afterward came radiation and months of chemotherapy. By the end of it, I was more physically and emotionally exhausted than I'd ever been. I felt like I could melt away into nothing. I almost felt resigned to it - nearly welcomed it. That scared me.

Art changed everything.

Then one day I was on Instagram and came across a reel of someone making faux stone out of polymer clay. I was in awe and excited at the idea of what I could create. Where beforehand I was sleeping my days away to avoid the struggle, once I discovered polymer clay, I began dreaming about what I could create the next day, and I wanted to get out of bed. It was the best distraction.

How weird, or maybe, how powerful, is that? Art helped me want to live and fight when I was at my lowest. I experienced firsthand what can happen when you channel your energy into creating something out of nothing, and it made me a true believer that everyone deserves a creative outlet.

Keep Going

By then, healing had become something I was doing in every sense of the word. I'd had to relearn how to walk, rebuild strength and adjust to a body that had been through enormous trauma. Discovering polymer clay gave me another kind of rehabilitation - something for my spirit.

Creating gave me something to look forward to; then something to work toward. Eventually, what began as a way to get through one day at a time became Sunstone Clay Co.

My Mission

I love that little pieces of something I created are making their way into people's lives; that they're being worn, gifted, displayed, and loved.

It still amazes me that something I made from scratch can make someone happy, help them express their individuality, or simply add a little beauty to their day.

Sunstone is ultimately about celebrating the things that make us us: our creativity, our resilience, our weirdness, our inner magic. What better way to spend this precious life than doing something I love while adding a little joy and beauty to the world?

Sunstone Clay Co

I was living in Oregon when I first discovered polymer clay. The Oregon Sunstone is traditionally associated with self-worth, authenticity, and discovering one's own nature. My cancer journey sparked a fight within me - one that challenged me to value myself in a way I never had before. I had to love myself enough to save myself. Just like the sunstone reminds me of my journey, I want my hand-made art to help my customers remember their value, their inner uniqueness and beauty.
